Preserving Your Past

A memoir ensures the traditions of a family and may ensure the tradition of family itself.

What is a Memoir?

A personal memoir is a book about your life, combining stories told through oral history interviews with (if you so choose) old photographs, genealogy charts, and other memorabilia.  Just as a photograph preserves the outward appearance of its subject, so too a memoir preserves the interior life of you, the narrator.  The memoir can be held, read, and cherished now, and in the future.  It is one of the greatest gifts you can leave your descendants—and yourself.

But the book form is not the only form of recording your life stories.  Other variations are discussed under What to Expect.

Why Use a Personal Historian?

But such a creation is an extraordinary and time-consuming enterprise.  A personal historian helps overcome the challenges of writing your life history, or personal memoir.   I work with you to elicit your stories and thoughtful reminiscences, and to organize and edit the information into a meaningful, engaging, and articulate manuscript.  Once the manuscript is completed, you will have choices of how to have it bound and printed for distribution to those you love.
